Drum in your joy while you learn basic hand drumming (djembe/conga) techniques with drills, simple songs and rhythms. Complete beginners to intermediate players will feel comfortable and able to grow. The first 30 minutes are beginner focused drills. Complexity of the last hour is determined by the combination of players, skill levels, and the energy of the day.
Jason Isla has been playing African hand drums for 12 years. His musical training started with piano, violin and upright bass. In addition to drumming he is a father of an amazing 3 year old, a former after school care administrator, and a social science educator with over 7 years of classroom teaching experience. Currently Jason facilitates drum circles in Central Florida and across the United States with GIVING WORLD PERCUSSION, Drum Magic, and Giving Tree Music. In the Orlando area he regularly performs with tribal dancers, rock bands, belly dancers, and free form performances. Primarily Jason operates GIVING WORLD PERCUSSION, provider of facilitated drum circles, drum workshops, classes, drum repair, and custom drum building.

This class is designed to help foster your child’s development socially, cognitively, physically and emotionally using Developmentally Appropriate Practices. This class will help prepare your child for preschool and give you tips on things you can do at home to encourage their progress. Activities will include art, science, literacy, music and movement and reading. This may be called a “class” but this will be a very relaxed environment just as Amaya Papaya is where your child can choose their participation level and have fun!
Mrs. Aisha Bailey has over eight years of experience as a child care provider for U.S. Air Force Child Development Centers. During her career, Aisha served as lead child care provider in classrooms comprised of either pre-toddlers, toddlers, or preschool age children. She has earned over 60 credits towards her Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and plans to return to college in the Fall 2010 semester. Aisha is an active member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and has only worked in NAEYC accredited Child Development Centers. NAEYC accredited programs have demonstrated that they provide a safe and healthy environment for children, have teachers who are well trained, have access to excellent teaching materials, and work with a curriculum that is appropriately challenging and developmentally sound. Aisha’s husband is a federal employee currently working for the U.S. Army, and they have two beautiful daughters: 3-year old Naomi and 10-month old Jasira. Aisha is very excited to be volunteering here at Amaya Papaya and hopes to foster your child’s social, cognitive, language, and physical skills through play!
